Quality service delivery is something any institution strives to embrace for its success. There is an old adage which goes, “a customer is a king” and this reflects how customers are of great importance in every business. Aware of this, on 7th June 2022, Kigali Independent University and ULK Polytechnic Institute (UPI) jointly organized a public lecture to remind all employees the qualities of a good and successful servant.

The lecture was delivered by NSENGIYUMVA Jacques, the Director of Administration and Finance, who was together with the Vice Chancellor of ULK, Dr. RUSIBANA Claude and the Principal of UPI, Dr. SUMBIRI Djuma.

NSENGIYUMVA’s message was delivered through the participatory approach whereby the participants were engaged throughout the lecture so as to echo their views on a number of points.

Before disclosing the definition of quality service, the main speaker allowed the participants to share their understanding of it. Most of those who intervened came to the conclusion that quality service has to do with satisfying the needs of the person coming to you for help. On this, the main speaker added that quality service goes with doing something timely and diligently.

Before wrapping up the lecture, NSENGIYUMVA reminded the participants some of the qualities that define a good servant. As he underscored, those qualities include commitment, mastery of responsibilities, truth telling, to mention just a few.

Speaking at the function, Dr. RUSIBANA Claude, the Vice Chancellor of Kigali Independent University ULK, stressed that commendable results start mushrooming when seniors build trust among their subordinates.

To succeed in your responsibilities, you need to treat your subordinates with respect and build trust in them. If you fail to build trust in your subordinates, all your efforts will be futile, hence leading to mediocre results”, he told the participants.

In his point of supplement, Dr. SUMBIRI Djuma, the Principal of ULK Polytechnic Institute, commended the   kindness with which the Founder and President of ULK Ltd, Prof. Dr RWIGAMBA Balinda, treats his employees and called upon everyone to pay back with hard and quality work.

When I arrived here, I couldn’t believe my ears when someone told me that ULK Ltd paid her employees even during the unprecedented times of COVID-19, a period in which many companies laid off employees and suspended salaries. This gesture should be greeted with quality service by all of us”, he was quoted as saying.

It is worth noting that at the end of the lecture the participants resolved to join hands for the betterment of the institutions they serve and for their own good.
